Freud discovered that "dreams are the royal road to the unconscious." Recently depth psychologists have discovered that the body is another road to the unconscious or one's deeper truth...

If you were asked to point to your mind, you would most likely point to your head, thinking that where your brain is. However, you would be wrong to think that your mind is limited to your brain alone...
Holistic counseling is about uniting the mind, body, and spirit. When one is out of balance, it impacts the others. I believe that the mind, body, and spirit are intimately connected. My therapy acknowledges that we each have spiritual, emotional, social, and physical dimensions that are all connected and together make up the “self.” Gaining more knowledge about these various aspects of yourself is what leads to a balanced, fulfilled life. This is what I help my clients do.
Get more connected to your inner self to find your own clarity, trust, and personal power.
The counseling piece of this involves helping the client to identify your goals, values, and beliefs. We use that information to create an action plan on how to reach the goals. I provide support during the process and teach skills and concepts to make goal attainment easier. I also help the client to become more mindful of who she/he is. So much time is spent as a Human Doing that few of us know how to be a Human Being and just be present. Becoming who you are can be a very enlightening process.
I also believe in the distinctive capability of each individual to heal and to change. I use many modalities to work with clients to remove blocks and process to achieve wholeness, wellness, and balance in their lives. I provide a safe environment in which clients uncover, discover, and recover their authentic selves by releasing trauma and working through blocks and obstacles. Clients are then able to learn healthy and loving ways of relating to themselves and others. I believe that counseling provides an opportunity for healing, self-discovery, and spiritual growth in the context of a safe, supportive, and therapeutic relationship.
In most cases, first, you have to balance the body chemistry and/or get your brain working in optimal order. Emotional problems are incredibly hard to treat when the body is out of whack. Sometimes giving the body what it needs is often all you need to do for it to heal itself. If there is still a problem of the mind or spirit, THEN work on that. With the body working with you instead of against you, your chance for success is a lot higher and a lot faster. The “problem” with traditional mental health is that it relies too heavily on medication. While I am not anti-drug, I do feel that they are vastly overused and simply dull the symptoms rather than removing the cause. This puts the client in the position of “coping with” the problem rather than ridding himself of it.
Holistic counseling can also involve changes in diet, nutritional supplements, exercise, mindfulness, meditation, deep breathing exercises, changes in lifestyle and more. The other issue with traditional mental health is the over reliance on techniques. I love techniques! I love that there is a theory to explain virtually everything! I love teaching people these things and seeing the light come on. However, I think that the “discovery” (in Positive Psychology) that happy people have specific habits that, if acquired by unhappy people, will result in happiness, is a bit backward. It’s like working from the outside in.
"Life experience occurs on multi-dimensional levels. Trauma and emotions imprint on the physical & spiritual body. We go through life carrying all of this baggage - this is why we feel so heavy. In order to lighten our load, we need to clean and maintain all of our many bodies." My practice embodies both traditional and non-traditional therapy.
I use the Mind Body approach to help you identify and begin to work toward your personal goals. You will learn new ways to care for yourself and to strive for more balance in your life so that you may reach your full potential. Therapy is an intrapersonal experience. I facilitate the healing process by creating a safe, non-judgemental space while offering guidance, as the client looks into the mirror and begins the journey within. That journey, as I see it, includes two paths. The first is one of a physical journey; life as a human being with a personality/Ego and a physical body. The second path is that of a spiritual journey; spiritual lessons to be learned for the Soul. My job is to help the client bring meaning and purpose into his/her present day life through understanding and acceptance of his/her journey."
"I believe in the innate power of the self and am dedicated to facilitating the healing process in a supportive and nurturing environment. I want to help you explore within, uncover your path and find the balance of Body, Mind, and Spirit."
